BizMagic Podcast Episode 13: Finding Free Stock Photos

If you want to stand out from the crowd on social media or some other form of digital or print promotion, then you probably know that having crisp, clean, and interesting images is one important factor in doing so! But if you’re like many people out there, you may just pop over to Google, do an image search and find the first cool thing that pops up. There’s a big problem with that: It’s not yours to take and use freely and you could get into trouble with copyright issues. So in order to avoid that problem, on this episode, I’ll be showing you my favorite sites to get free stock photos and videos that you can use as you wish!

I invite you to join me and watch the video below. This episode is best watched as I show you around my favorite photo sites, but if you prefer to simply listen instead, there is an audio version below as well! Video Transcript

Are you one of those people who spend time doing a Google image search for pictures or illustrations to use in your social media or when you make print or online digital material, but you know you’re not really supposed to be using them, cause of those, you know, copyright issues. But you don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for Shutterstock or some other stock image site.

Well, if that’s you, then join me today as I give you 4 quick and easy places to find all the images (and stock videos, even) that you need!

Welcome to the next episode of the BizMagic Podcast, sharing expertise and solopreneur journeys to help business owners find the magic in their businesses by being more productive, focused, and successful.

I’m Patti Meyer, founder of BizMagic, where I help entrepreneurs, solopreneurs, and small business owners clear their plate so they can get back to doing what they love - running their business

If you are someone who posts on social media, then you may know that the posts that get the most attention are ones that have images or videos in them. You pretty much want to avoid at all costs posting content with no images on social media. Twitter, of course, is the exception.

Or maybe you are creating a lead magnet or a flyer or whatever it is and you need an image to make it pop. In all of these cases, when you are using images that you are sharing as your own, you want to make sure they are yours to share.

When you just grab an image off of a Google image search, there’s a good chance that you are not asking permission from the owner of the website where you found it, nor are you likely crediting them.

And while if you are a small entrepreneur, the chance of the person who the image belongs to seeing your use of it and suing you is pretty slim, it’s still better to be safe than sorry.

The other option, of course, is to pay a stock photo site like Shutterstock, iStock, or Getty Images. They have high quality photos that you can use for anything you need, but they also can come with a hefty price tag.

So to help you out with all your image-sourcing endeavors, I’m here to share my favorite places to find stock images and videos that cost you nothing and you can use for whatever you’d like!

Here are the names of the sites, but if you want to get the full deal on them, you’ll have to watch the video!
